White-tailed Eagle in North Norfolk

I headed up to see the White-tailed Eagle in North Norfolk today. Luckily, someone found it sat in a field just east of Dersingham and it was on show as soon as I arrived. Putting my foot down upon hearing the news was a good decision, as no sooner had I been watching it for a minute or two, the bird took off, circled around a bit and then headed off NW. I headed off to look for it, but after about an hour it returned to the same area and I then followed it as it headed over Anmer and then Houghton Hall where I last saw it. I managed to grab a few photos of it as I stopped at various points along the route. The top photo shows it with a Common Buzzard (which is right next to the eagle, mobbing it) to show the size difference between the two.

Great White Egret in Norwich!

After two previous failed visits, I finally caught up with the Great White Egret on Earlham/Bowthorpe Marshes this afternoon. The bird was west of Tollgate Way, feeding at the far end of the marsh (viewed from the road bridge just past the Spire BUPA Hospital), so I drove down to the Bowthorpe Southern Carpark and walked onto the marsh. I got really good views of the bird until a dog walker strayed too close to it and the bird took off, flew over me and then headed off west over the woodland. It's possible that it just flew off to the most westerly of the Colney Gravel-pits.

Black-bellied Dipper, Thetford

I stopped off in Thetford yesterday (Sat, 9 Feb) to have a look at the Black-belled Dipper that has been wintering there and I wasn't disappointed. The bird is very confiding and although the area it was in was quite dark (overhanging trees) I managed to get some nice shots and video.
